Maha Shivaratri is a Hindu festival celebrated every year in reverence of Lord Shiva, one of the Hindu Gods forming the Trinity, comprising of Lord Brahma, the creator of the world, Lord Vishnu, the preserver, and Lord Shiva, the destroyer and reproducer of life.
The festival falls on the moonless, 14th night of the new moon in the Hindu lunar month of Phalguna (February – March) with devotees fasting and praying to Lord Shiva.
Shivaratri (Sanskrit for night) is the night when Lord Shiva is said to have performed the dance of primordial creation, preservation, and destruction.
