Spiritual Counseling

The purpose of spiritual counseling is not to tell you how to live your life, but instead to help you live from a higher state of being or more in peace, wisdom, and love. Counseling in general is a service where someone provides advice or guidance for another. Spiritual counseling is when that advice or guidance is based on spiritual, but not necessarily religious, principles. The focus involves recognizing and connecting the many benefits of one’s spirituality with any desired improvements.

While spiritual counseling can be based on religious principles, many counselors are non-denominational and do not subscribe to or encourage the philosophies of any one religion. They can help individuals who do follow a particular religion without imposing on or violating their beliefs. Those who advocate spiritual counseling typically believe that the connection between a person and a greater power and presence, however perceived, can be beneficial to a person.

Many times people seek counseling when they are trying to overcome some problem or difficulty, but many times it is simply the desire to meet and make a connection with someone who can look from outside of situations with wise and loving eyes, see things from a different perspective, and guide us toward a greater understanding. Whether it is a physical, mental, emotional or spiritual matter, meeting and making a connection with a spiritual counselor or even a loved one or friend can help us to remember that we are not alone in our life journey. A spiritual counselor helps a person achieve their goals by first recognizing that there is more to their being than flesh and bone or more to life than matter and material. There is a greater power and presence that can help us to live more in peace, love, and joy.

There are countless ways in which a person may receive counseling, through their religious or spiritual faith, through holy scripture or divine text, and through the aid of spiritual leaders, employer or school personnel, family elders, loved ones, friends, conferences, group meetings, and even self-help books, inspirational music, spiritual cinema or films, and much more. Spiritual counseling may be found in one or all those avenues, but remember their purpose is not to tell you how to live your life, but instead help you to live from a higher state of being or more in peace, wisdom, and love.

Spiritual counselors are those who provide advice and guidance through unconditional love, who help you to see the value and worth in every living being, and who encourage you to connect with your own divine source. They are those guides along your spiritual path who point the way towards your own truths to self and life. Simply reach out to those who will listen without judgment and who will help you to see situations with wiser and more loving eyes. Reach out to those who will help you to see things from a different perspective. To those who will help you to see that you are never alone on your journey here. For your spiritual support system is always in place. There are those in the world of spirit who are forever by your side, loving you, guiding you, and supporting you, and there are those in the world of flesh and bone or matter and material who are available to you as well. They are those spiritual counselors or even loved ones or friends who have your best interest at heart, who counsel, advise, or guide through unconditional love.

Spiritual counseling is not considered conventional therapy, even though it is thought to be beneficial to the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of one’s being. If you feel you need a therapist, social worker, psychologist, physician, medical expert or the like, please seek professional help. If you feel that speaking to a spiritual counselor, loved one, or friend will help you in your spiritual journey, please reach out to them as well. For it is in our caring connection with others that we gain some greater understanding of self and life.
