The explanation for her beliefs was, “I’m spiritual, not religious.”
You have probably heard it many times in these more recent of new age years. It seems everyone is talking about their spirituality and claiming to be more spiritually minded rather than a follower of any one religious affiliation. It is a growing phenomenon sweeping not only across America and the Western world, but also the globe. People everywhere are awakening and coming into at least some understanding of whom and what they really are – spiritual, not religious beings. We are all spiritual beings experiencing life as a human, no matter the religion or faith we may follow.
What a great time to be here, among all those who are being, to use a more familiar word, reborn. Yet it is one thing to find your spirit awakening into some awareness of self and life and quite another to live the rest of your days as someone who is spiritual, not religious. I might even argue any consensus among sects that religion is harder to practice. Religions have their doctrine or particular principles by which to live. Without them, one must find their own way. One must work a bit harder to learn the truths to self and life. One must look at all the possibilities to our existence, learn something of man’s history, religions, and philosophies and strive to obtain that which others may have simply found through faith alone.
I have said it many times before that while faith alone is fine; experiences are even better. After all, we came into life to experience or to be active doers in this world. We came to have new experiences and to learn from them. We came to learn and grow, to taste and touch, and to live what the spiritually minded call “a human experience.” I know I did. I know that I did not come here to simply take it all in on just faith, but instead to use all that I have been gifted with to explore self and life. To experience this world or to have a physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual existence. Why else would we have been created as human beings and how else would we evolve into anything more? We are here as individual expressions of something greater to experience this world in countless ways. What an amazing opportunity this is for all of us. Never take the gift of life for granted and always live it to the fullest, not as a mere viewer, but as an active doer!
We have been gifted not only with this particular life, this unique and wondrous life, but also with the ability to recognize the true nature of our being or who and what we really are. With the ability to recognize the value and worth of every living being. The meaning and purpose to life itself or to understand why we are here. Not to live on faith alone, but to live with it. To experience, to explore, and to learn the truths to self and life. To have a human experience and to discover as much about our world and us as we can. To learn and grow or to evolve into a more spiritual, not religious being.
